Anna & Sascha

Shipwreck

At 10th February 2018 a ship stranded in Malta. Ironically that’s the public holiday of St Paul who stranded nearby 59 AD. The shipwreck was a nice subject to photograph as this is a rare sight in Malta. Here a couple of photos and how I photographed them. This photo is taken right after sunset. It was very windy this evening and the waves were crashing against the ship which resulted in loud noises coming from the steel body of the ship. The water sprayed over the ship which can be seen in that photo, though it is a long exposure and the water spray looks like fog. ISO1000, f4, 28mm, 20sec, single shot. You will notice that the exposure time is in all photos the same. By not exceeding 20 sec. I can be sure that there is no movement in the stars to be seen. With a longer exposure time you would see star trails. The focus I set manual because my camera wasn’t able to find focus, it was already too dark. ISO1000, f4, 16mm, 20sec, single shot ISO3200, f4, 26mm, 20sec, single shot ISO3200, f4, 24mm, 20sec, single shot This photo is taken before sunrise. Actually it’s two photos blended together. In the first shot I expose for my main subject, which is obviously the ship and in the second shot I expose for the sky. Later I blend these images in post. ISO100, f6.3, 3sec/ 0.4sec 31mm This is also a blended photo. The difference to the previous photo is that I used here much longer exposure times. To be able to do so I used a ND filter. Through the use of a filter not just the water becomes more smooth but also the movements of the clouds can be seen differently. ISO64, f5, 119sec/200sec, 24mm Blended from two photos at sunrise. Important for that photo is that the I get this star effect around the sun. This depends on the design and number of blades in your lens and the aperture you use. I use f16 and usually don’t go higher to remain the image quality. ISO64, f16, 0.4sec/ 1/25sec, 16mm A photo taken from further away to get a bit another look mainly through the compression. ISO64, f8, 1/100sec 86mm, single shot The next morning the storm calmed down so it was possible to get closer without getting soaked. These fisheye photos are all taken handheld. I made sure to shoot levelled not to get too much distortion. ISO64, f4, 1/100sec, 16mm fisheye ISO64, f4, 1/160sec, 16mm fisheye ISO64, f4, 1/250sec, 16mm fisheye ISO64, f4, 1/100sec, 16mm fisheye This photo looks like daylight but is taken just before sunrise. ISO100 f6.3 13sec 35mm, single shot. Some aerial photos And here a 360 out of one of my favourite toys.

Morocco

Morocco A winter adventure on the African continent. Who would think it would be cold in Morocco. There are the Atlas Mountains which are the highest in north Africa. Our aim was to climb Mount Toubkal with it’s 4167m. We were a small group of three, a Hungarian, a Maltese and a German. Booked a tour of 6 days which was splitted in 5 days trekking and one day Marrakesh. When we arrived in Marrakesh we got picked up by tour guide Abdellha and a driver who took us to a mountain village called Imlil which we reached after a 1.5 hours drive. We moved in a guesthouse which was freezing cold, I think inside temperature was the same as outside and we were the only guests. We met this evening our guide Mohamed and our cook Lassen who spoilt us with a nice meal while we discussed the coming days with the guides. Glad we had good sleeping bags but still we woke up with cold noses. For our first trekking day the tour was up to a pass and back to Imlil. The weather was great, cold but sunshine and while walking uphill we stripped of layer after layer. After 6 hours we were back at the guesthouse and did another walk through the village and surroundings before dinner. We got an impression about the life in the village and saw some Berber shops, where they sell carpets, Argan oil and other stuff. Unfortunately no flying carpets even the prices did let me assume that they can. Lassen prepared again a nice and healthy meal for us and I dared to have a shower this evening. The shower was warm but not hot so it felt terrible cold in this house. There was besides a small gas stove no heating at all. Think twice before you decide to go there in winter. On the second trekking day we walked to the refugee Toubcal, also called basecamp. For lunch we stopped at a couple of huts where Lassen prepared us some food. From that point the snow started and as we were on the last 2 hours to the hut it started snowing which made walking more tiring. It was almost dark when we reached the refugee where a fireplace made the hut cosy warm. Next day summit but the weather didn’t allow it. It was snowing over night and a nasty wind was blowing by -18 degrees. Because of this conditions there was no chance to climb Toubkal so we decided to go back down with other trekkers. The first two hours were hard because there was no path and the wind blew the snow very unpleasant in our faces. Further down the sun came out and we had lunch at the same place as the day before. We trekked back to Imlil but moved into another guesthouse which felt a bit less cold but still cold. The coming day one of us got sick and had to spent the whole day in bed while we remaining two were going for a trek to another pass together with Mohamed, Lassen and the Mule which carried the kitchen and food. After 4 days trekking and one sick trekker we decided to go to Marrakesh a day before the original plan. After five days without phone and any internet back to the civilization was a shock at first. The second day Marrakesh was more relaxed and we did some sightseeing. Closing the trekking holiday with a good traditional meal and many nice memories and photos. The Atlas mountains are beautiful and I want to return in a warmer month. That’s were we booked the tour and was a good experience: Toubkal-Explore ” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″] Here a few 360’s I took

The Pianist

Valletta has on the entrance of it’s Grand Harbor the so called Break Water Bridge. I always loved the design of the bridge and the area is mostly quiet, not many people around. The view on the opposite site to Fort Rinella and the open sea is amazing. Long time I had the idea to do there a bit a different photo shooting, something Malta has not seen before and so Szilard and his piano came to my mind. On a weather wise mixed autumn day we headed towards the bridge with his white piano and took a few photos. At the end of this article you can watch a short behind the scenes video of the making. If you have as well a crazy idea you want to bring to life then get in touch with me. ” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Viktoria & Denis

To shoot a wedding for friends is always special, I mean I shot a couple of weddings and many times it felt like I am under friends. This makes my job so nice and keeps my passion for wedding photography. But in this case they are friends of mine and it somehow feels like the expectations to myself are much higher than on any other jobs. Before the wedding it was a strange feeling between excitement and absolut happiness to be part of their wedding and capture it. I think I was well prepared and had my image ideas and what I discussed with Victoria before on my mind. Gozo, Ramla beach what a location for a wedding. And for the lucky couple it is not just a pictures scene but for Viktoria and Denis at this beach everything started four years ago. What a story, how they got to know each other, what happened when they were dating four years ago until they became a couple and today on their wedding day everybody can see and feel the love they have for each other. I am definitely jaleous and it fills me with hope and love to see two people so happy. Before the wedding ceremony we did a photo shoot which was fun for all of us. Viktoria is a highly creativ person, has a good taste and is very easy to work with. Denis looked amazing and the interaction between them was so real and lovely. The ceremony was short but nice and was followed by some glasses of Prosecco. The ring shot was my last official act as photographer. I enjoyed my assignment very much, I am blessed I could shoot this special occassion for my friends and by the time writing this article they did not see the photos yet. So but now here you go, enjoy this gallery. ” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Hochzeit Steffi & Flo

” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Budapest

After I shot the beautiful wedding of Leila and Stuart at the Chateau Foldvary in Otteveny I travelled by train to Budapest. I found a place via couchsurfing for my stay and was very lucky with my host. That was only my second experience with couchsurfing. In Budapest I met my friend Johanna from Malta and we went for sightseeing together. In the evenings my host was so kind and showed me places I wouldn´t have found myself. For example a hill with a good view on Budapest in district one or a beach bar at the Danube. There must be so many more places to discover and I definitely want to go back to this amazing city and explore. ” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Allgäu MTB Tour

During my home visit in August, I had the opportunity to go mountain biking to the Allgäu with Uli and Karlheinz. After I over slept in the morning, we started with a slighly delay with the camper to Füssen im Allgäu. There we have organized a bike for me, then parked the camper and had a breakfast. Then we started, we chose with about 50 KM and 1200 heights the longest tour from the info broschure. Karlheinz did not have any electrical support but still almost left Uli and me behind. Partly the route was very steep and rough. Also technically there were a few treats. The weather was perfect and only at the end we got into the rain. On the second day, we decided for a less challenging tour. It rained over night and the weather forecast promised no rainfall until the afternoon. So we drove with the camper to Tannheim and started from there with the bikes to the Vilsalpsee and further to a waterfall at the end of the valley. As a highlight of the tour we went to the Älpeles hut. After the long climb to the hut, we have earned the lunch before we rolled back into the valley and made a long bend back to Tannheim. After our tour we drove to Bad Hindelang on another campsite. On the third day a gourmet tour from Oberjoch. After the lunch on the Buchelalpe I cycled back to the starting point, while the other two were cycling to Fuessen. We met again at a campsite at the Forggensee, where we spent the rest of the day. Day four starts gray and rainy, but we did not plan a bike tour anyway. We visited the hydroelectric power station at the Forggensee and then made our way home. ” template=”/home/content/58/11402258/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/gallery.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Yoga Retreat Tuscany

Lotus Room Yogacenter Malta organized the yearly Yoga retreat and I was part of it to take photos of the event. Want to give you an impression from my personal perspective on such an assignment. I know Jenny since a couple of years now and met her first when I went to her Yoga classes. I wasn´t attending her classes regular but we worked together on different events and met here and there and so we stayed in touch. Besides our friendship Jenny likes my photos and I love to photograph Yoga. The retreat was in the Tuscany at a beautiful old restored house, surrounded by a park, farm land and nature. I write this article when I was just back from this experience, all is fresh and the moments are still very present. It was a 24 hour job, shooting, editing, shooting, sleep. Though it was so relaxed, I could join some meditation and connect with the other participants. After our arrival at the Yoga center we got pampered with a yummy lunch and learned that the food cooked for us will be vegetarian, mainly organic, local, some gluten and diary free. Though there was a power cut the kitchen team managed to cook with candle light this excellent meal. In the afternoon Jenny strated off with a introduction of the schedule for the coming days and a meditation. Every day started with meditation before breakfast, then Yoga practice till lunch. Jenny shared during the class very detailed knowledge regards yoga poses which was also for me very interesting. In the afternoon were activities like wine tasting, visiting and the visit of a natural reservat and the village close by. Fruits, tea and water provided at all times Healthy breakfast Yoga outside on a wooden deck One afternoon we visited Orvieto and Civita Bagnoregio two amazing places.  Had my camera always ready and asked to give me a yoga pose in front of iconic backgrounds. Hochzeit Cindy & Mirko
